Fragrance Material | Essential Oil

White Oud Essential Oil, sometimes also called “gaharu buaya” or “crocodile wood,” is distilled from the heartwood of Aetoxylon sympetalum, a rare and unusual species found in parts of Indonesia, Papua and Southeast Asia. Though technically not a true agarwood from the Aquilaria genus, White Oud has earned its place in modern perfumery thanks to its smooth, mellow, and refined character. Unlike the dark, smoky intensity of traditional oud, White Oud offers a lighter, creamier, and more ethereal expression of the oud family. Its aroma is soft and woody, with balsamic undertones, gentle sweetness, and a subtle leathery depth, making it both sophisticated and highly wearable.

In perfumery, White Oud functions as a base note, grounding a composition with its velvety warmth and lingering diffusion. It lends richness and complexity without overpowering, blending especially well with florals, musks, sandalwood, amber, and spices. Perfumers value it for its versatility: it can soften heavy oriental blends, enrich florals with a woody backbone, or stand as a delicate oud highlight in modern niche perfumes.

Often used in niche compositions, it brings sophistication to blends where a gentler oud character is desired.
