Fragrance Material | Aroma Molecule

A green-floral ester that combines two distinct aromatic families in a single molecule: the sharp, cut-grass freshness of cis-3-hexenol, one of the primary compounds responsible for the smell of freshly mown lawn, and the soft, balsamic warmth of salicylate chemistry. The result is a material that sits at an interesting intersection, green and aromatic on the top, shifting toward a more orchid-like, powdery floral quality in the heart, with a mossy, slightly phenolic depth underneath. It is used primarily as a naturalising agent and green support material, adding an authentic, almost biological freshness to compositions without the volatility of the parent alcohol.

The opening reads as green, fresh, and lightly medicinal, with a faint yeasty, mossy edge and a phenolic note that grounds the brightness. The heart reveals the salicylate character: softer, more floral, with an orchid-like creaminess that bridges the green top and the mossy base. Tenacity is excellent for a green material at 75 hours on a smelling strip, which is the key practical advantage over using cis-3-hexenol itself. The esterification with salicylate slows evaporation and locks the green note into a composition for far longer.

cis-3-Hexenyl Salicylate works as a green modifier, natural-effect support material, and low-level background green note.

Recommended concentration: 0.03% minimum, 0.3% average, up to 3.3% maximum in a finished compound.

Particularly effective in:

Modern powdery floral compositions needing a natural green support
Chypre and mossy structures alongside oakmoss, evernyl, and other salicylates
Fresh and green fougere compositions
Naturalistic and fresh floral heart accords where cut-grass greenness adds realism
Fine fragrance, personal care, fabric care, and antiperspirant (rated excellent for all)

Blends well with:

Green materials: violet leaf, galbanum, cis-3-hexenol for layered green effects
Mossy and phenolic materials: oakmoss, evernyl, other salicylates
Florals: rose, jasmine, muguet where a green, natural lift is needed
Powdery iris and soft ambers
Citruses for a fresh, green citrus opening

Note: avoid in cold wave and chlorine-heavy applications; only fair performance in direct soap applications.
