Dried Flower Petals | Centaurea cyanus

Cornflower Petals are vibrant blue dried petals prized for their striking colour and versatility in botanical blends. With a very mild aroma and delicate texture, they are primarily used to enhance the visual appeal of teas, incense, potpourri, and handcrafted botanical creations.

Raw: Very light aroma; faintly green and slightly hay-like, with minimal floral character.

Heated / Smouldered: Minimal scent impact when burned; cornflower is used more for colour than fragrance.

Infused / Tea: Mild and neutral in flavour, contributing colour and visual interest rather than strong taste.

Cornflower has been cultivated across Europe for centuries and was traditionally associated with meadows and cottage gardens. Historically used in herbal preparations and as a natural dye plant, its petals are valued today for their aesthetic qualities.

Common uses include:
~ Aromatic & Creative Applications
~ Decorative addition to loose incense blends
~ Enhancing potpourri and botanical sachets
~ Natural colour accent in handcrafted products

Tea & Culinary Use

~ Natural blue accent in specialty beverage formulations

Cornflower petals are best used as a visual highlight rather than a primary aromatic ingredient.

The first rule of perfumery: never work neat.

Every professional perfumer works in dilution. It's not a beginner shortcut, it's the correct way to evaluate and blend aromatic materials. At full concentration, materials smell harsh, inaccurate, and often overwhelming. You're not smelling the material, you're smelling too much of it.

When you dilute a 5ml aromatic material to a 10% solution, you extend it to 50ml of working stock. That's five times the material to experiment with, evaluate, and blend, without wasting a drop of something precious and expensive.

For powder materials like ambroxan, calone, and vanillin, dilution isn't optional, it's essential. Powders need to be fully dissolved in ethanol before they can be accurately measured, evaluated, or incorporated into a formula. Without this step, you simply can't work with them properly.

This bundle gives you everything you need to start working correctly from the first session.
