Pure Essential Oil | Callitris intratropica

Striking in appearance and singular in character, Blue Cypress Essential Oil is one of Australia's most distinctive aromatic exports. A deep cobalt-blue oil steam distilled from the heartwood and bark of Callitris intratropica, a conifer native to the Northern Territory. It has been used for thousands of years by Aboriginal and Tiwi peoples for medicinal and ceremonial purposes, and its recent entry into Western perfumery has made it one of the more interesting woody base materials available from the Australian botanical palette.

Blue Cypress is warm, woody, and quietly complex. Balsamic and faintly sweet, with an earthy, resinous depth and a cool, slightly camphoraceous edge. Faintly medicinal without being clinical; its character sits closer to a dry, aromatic wood than to the sharp, green freshness of Mediterranean cypress. The ink-blue colour comes from guaiazulene and chamazulene - the same azulene compounds responsible for the blue of German chamomile - and lends it an immediately recognisable visual identity.

Blue Cypress works as a middle to base note and fixative with genuine staying power.

Recommended concentration: 1–5% in the finished formulation.

Particularly effective in:

Woody, earthy, and resinous base structures
Australian native-themed or bush-inspired compositions
Men's fragrances and unisex woody orientals
Meditation and grounding aromatherapy blends
Skincare and cosmetic formulations where its anti-inflammatory properties are relevant

Blends well with:
Australian natives like sandalwood, lemon myrtle, kunzea, tea tree
Resins like frankincense, labdanum, benzoin
Woods like cedarwood, vetiver, patchouli
Citrus like bergamot, yuzu, grapefruit
Florals like neroli, ylang ylang

Suitable for non-perfumery applications including candles, home fragrance, and skincare where a warm, woody-balsamic character is desired.

Can turn semi-solid in cool temperatures, so warm gently in a water bath before use if needed.
