Pure Essential Oil | Picea mariana

Black Spruce Essential Oil is a steam-distilled essential oil obtained from the needles and twigs of Picea mariana, used in perfumery to bring crisp coniferous freshness with a deep, resinous backbone. It delivers a cool forested lift with more depth and balsamic weight than many other spruce or pine materials.

Black Spruce presents a fresh coniferous profile with green pine facets, soft camphoraceous clarity, and a gently balsamic, slightly smoky undertone. The aroma feels grounded and expansive rather than sharp, offering both lift and substance. Compared to fir or Siberian spruce, it reads darker and more resinous, with a steady, outdoorsy presence.

Black Spruce functions primarily as a top-to-heart note, contributing freshness, structure, and a forested atmosphere.

Recommended concentration: 0.1–2%

Particularly effective in:
Woody-aromatic compositions, fougères, forest and alpine accords

Blends well with:
Citrus (bergamot, lemon)
Aromatics (lavender, rosemary, basil)
Woods (cedarwood, cypress, hinoki)
Resins (frankincense, labdanum) for depth

Suitable for non-perfumery applications including candles, soaps, body products, and home fragrance

It adds clarity and verticality while maintaining warmth and cohesion.

The first rule of perfumery: never work neat.

Every professional perfumer works in dilution. It's not a beginner shortcut, it's the correct way to evaluate and blend aromatic materials. At full concentration, materials smell harsh, inaccurate, and often overwhelming. You're not smelling the material, you're smelling too much of it.

When you dilute a 5ml aromatic material to a 10% solution, you extend it to 50ml of working stock. That's five times the material to experiment with, evaluate, and blend, without wasting a drop of something precious and expensive.

For powder materials like ambroxan, calone, and vanillin, dilution isn't optional, it's essential. Powders need to be fully dissolved in ethanol before they can be accurately measured, evaluated, or incorporated into a formula. Without this step, you simply can't work with them properly.

This bundle gives you everything you need to start working correctly from the first session.
