Fragrance Material | Pure Aroma Molecule

Sharp, fatty, and almost aggressively diffusive, Aldehyde C-8 is one of the classic aliphatic aldehydes of perfumery and one of the most powerful aroma chemicals available by weight. A straight-chain eight-carbon aldehyde, it occurs naturally in citrus peel oils and a range of fruit and dairy products, but in isolation it is a material of startling intensity: fatty, citrus-sharp, and slightly green, with a penetrating quality that announces itself immediately and lingers in the nostrils long after the blotter has been set down. Used correctly and in tiny amounts, it is a top note transformer. Used carelessly, it dominates everything around it.

The opening is sharp and aldehydic, fatty and citrus-bright at once, with a lemon-lime clarity and a waxy, slightly greasy edge that reads as both fresh and richly gourmand depending on what surrounds it. There is a faint green quality underneath, and at low concentrations a honey-like sweetness emerges that ties it naturally to floral and citrus compositions. Odour life on a smelling strip is only 3 hours, making it a true top note material, but its diffusive power at a relative odour impact of 1000 means even trace amounts register immediately and emphatically.

Aldehyde C-8 works as a top note modifier, citrus brightener, and aldehydic lift material used at extremely low concentrations.

Recommended concentration: 0.01% minimum, 0.1% average, up to 0.8% maximum in a finished compound. These numbers are not approximate, work within them carefully.

Particularly effective in:

Classic aldehydic fine fragrance structures in the tradition of Chanel No. 5 and its descendants
Eau de cologne and neroli-forward compositions needing fatty citrus lift
Bergamot, orange blossom, and jasmine accords at trace levels
Fresh citrus top note enhancement
Honey and apricot accords where a fatty, fruity facet is needed
Shampoo, hair care, and personal care products (rated excellent for these applications)

Blends well with:

Aldehydes: nonanal (C-9), phenyl acetaldehyde dimethyl acetal for layered aldehydic effects
Citrus: bergamot, lemon, lime, petitgrain, neroli
Florals: rose, jasmine, orange blossom
Honey and floral-fatty materials: phenethyl alcohol
Green materials at low levels for added freshness

Suitable for candles and home fragrance at very low levels (rated reasonable); avoid in cold wave or chlorine-heavy applications.
