Size 5ml

Steam distilled from the blossoms of Michelia alba, the white champaca tree cultivated across South and Southeast Asia, it captures a floral character of unusual complexity and beauty, at once fresh and narcotic, petal-bright and softly creamy, with a lasting depth that puts it in rare company among steam-distilled flower oils. In India and throughout the region, champaca flowers have been used for centuries as temple offerings, hair adornments, and perfumery materials. In Western fine fragrance, the oil remains relatively obscure, which makes it all the more interesting to work with.

Fresh and petal-like on the opening, with a narcotic heart that builds slowly and confidently. The dominant character is somewhere between ylang ylang, jasmine, and something entirely its own, heady and floral without the sharpness of jasmine, creamier and less banana-sweet than ylang, with a quiet orchid-like quality and a linalool softness that keeps it transparent and wearable even at its most intense. The white champaca (Michelia alba) used here is cleaner and lighter than the yellow champaca (Michelia champaca), which tends toward a spicier, more animalic character. Odour life of 60 hours on a smelling strip demonstrates excellent tenacity for a flower oil of this type.

Champaca Flower Essential Oil works as a heart note and narcotic floral modifier used at low concentrations.

Recommended concentration: 0.05% minimum, 0.5% average, up to 2% maximum in a finished compound. Start conservatively and let it develop before adding more.

Particularly effective in:

Narcotic and heavy white floral compositions
Jasmine, ylang, and tropical floral heart structures
Hyacinth, muguet, and orchid accords needing depth and naturalness
Niche and luxury fragrance where unusual naturals are the point
Hair care and personal care where a long-lasting floral character is desired (rated excellent)
Soaps, lotions, and bath products (rated very good to excellent)

Blends well with:

Other narcotic florals: jasmine, tuberose, ylang ylang, orange blossom
Muguet and hyacinth materials
Linalool-rich materials: linalool, linalyl acetate, bergamot
Sandalwood and soft woods for a classical Indian floral base
Musks and soft ambers for longevity

Note: causes discolouration in antiperspirant/deodorant applications and is not well-suited to cold wave or acid cleaner environments.
