Emblisi beach holds a very special place in my heart. I spent many wonderful summers there during my childhood. My brother, cousins and I would spend hours in the crystal clear water, jumping off the rocks, and swimming out so far we couldn't see the bottom anymore.
Gathering in the shade of fragrant Cypress trees, we would feast on packed lunches prepared by my mother. When I insisted to continue swimming on a full stomach, my grandfather called me 'gorgona' - mermaid.
He had gifted me a Hans Christian Anderson collection, which included the Little Mermaid. Such a tragic story, with a vivid and mysterious ending, where the titular character evaporates into Sea Foam. The tragedy and beauty of the Mermaid transforming into a formless yet conscious being continues to fascinate me.
Emblisi is not just a place, it's a feeling of nostalgia. A place where I can reconnect with my childhood memories and appreciate the ancient, natural splendor of the island Kefalonia.
