Essential Oil | Thymus vulgaris

Steam distilled from the leaves of Thymus vulgaris, white thyme is a redistilled and refined form of thyme oil with a cleaner, more workable aromatic profile than crude thyme distillate. This is the thymol chemotype, meaning the primary aromatic character is driven by thymol rather than the linalool or geraniol chemotypes found in some French varieties, giving it the classic intensely herbal, pungent, and clarifying thyme character that the plant is known for.

Intensely herbal and fresh from the first moment, with the sharp, penetrating quality that makes thyme one of the most immediately recognisable herbs in the aromatics palette. The thymol-dominant character gives it a clean, slightly medicinal warmth rather than the rounder, softer profile of linalool-type thyme. Alpha-pinene contributes a faint coniferous freshness; paracymene adds a warm, slightly woody-spicy facet underneath; linalool and terpinen-4-ol round the rougher edges and give it a softer drydown than raw red thyme. It is a material that announces itself clearly and needs thoughtful handling at higher concentrations.

White Thyme Essential Oil works as a middle note herbal modifier, functional aromatic ingredient, and spice-herb accent across fragrance, aromatherapy, and personal care applications.

Recommended concentration: 0.1-0.5% typical in finished formulations; up to 4% where a stronger herbal character is the brief. Add to formulations after cooling given the flash point above 61°C.

Particularly effective in:

Aromatic and fougere fine fragrance compositions at low concentrations
Breath-easy and respiratory support aromatherapy blends
Antiseptic and protective balms
Insect repellent formulations
Aura sprays and functional aromatherapy products
Soap and personal care where a clean, herbal character is wanted

Blends well with:

Herbs: rosemary, lavender, sage, oregano
Citrus: lemon, bergamot for brightness
Coniferous: pine, juniper berry
Spice: black pepper, clove at low levels
Woods: cedarwood as a base
