Fragrance Material | Accord

Castoreum Replacer is a synthetic fragrance accord designed to recreate the leathery, animalic character of natural castoreum without the use of animal-derived materials. Used in fragrance formulation at very low levels, it adds warmth, texture, and depth to compositions that require a darker, more tactile base.

Castoreum Replacer presents a leathery, animalic profile with facets of warm skin, smoky wood, resin, and subtle sweetness. The character is dry rather than fecal, with a slightly tarry, balsamic undertone that gives structure and realism. It contributes presence and density without becoming aggressive when used correctly.

Castoreum Replacer functions primarily as a modifier or base accent, rather than a feature note.

Recommended concentration: 1-5%

Particularly effective in:
Leather accords
Chypres and orientals
Animalic or vintage-inspired compositions

The first rule of perfumery: never work neat.

Every professional perfumer works in dilution. It's not a beginner shortcut, it's the correct way to evaluate and blend aromatic materials. At full concentration, materials smell harsh, inaccurate, and often overwhelming. You're not smelling the material, you're smelling too much of it.

When you dilute a 5ml aromatic material to a 10% solution, you extend it to 50ml of working stock. That's five times the material to experiment with, evaluate, and blend, without wasting a drop of something precious and expensive.

For powder materials like ambroxan, calone, and vanillin, dilution isn't optional, it's essential. Powders need to be fully dissolved in ethanol before they can be accurately measured, evaluated, or incorporated into a formula. Without this step, you simply can't work with them properly.

This bundle gives you everything you need to start working correctly from the first session.
