Fragrance Material | Pure Aroma Molecule

cis-3-Hexanol, sometimes known as Leaf Alcohol, is an aroma chemical used in perfumery to introduce fresh green, leafy facets reminiscent of crushed grass and stems. Clean and diffusive, it provides naturalistic freshness and realism in green, floral, and citrus compositions.

cis-3-Hexanol has a bright green, grassy profile with watery, slightly herbal nuances. The aroma is fresh and vivid rather than sharp, evoking cut grass, leaves, and plant sap. Used in small amounts, it adds lift and realism; at higher levels, it becomes intensely green and vegetal.

cis-3-Hexanol functions primarily as a top note or modifier, shaping freshness and green structure.

Recommended concentration: 0.05–1% (very potent; use sparingly)

Particularly effective in:
Green florals
Citrus and herbal compositions
Modern colognes and fresh woods

Blends well with:
Floral materials (rose, jasmine, muguet)
Citrus notes (bergamot, lemon)
Green notes, aldehydes, and soft woods

Can be used in non-perfumery applications such as home fragrance at very low levels

Small adjustments have a strong impact on freshness and realism.

The first rule of perfumery: never work neat.

Every professional perfumer works in dilution. It's not a beginner shortcut, it's the correct way to evaluate and blend aromatic materials. At full concentration, materials smell harsh, inaccurate, and often overwhelming. You're not smelling the material, you're smelling too much of it.

When you dilute a 5ml aromatic material to a 10% solution, you extend it to 50ml of working stock. That's five times the material to experiment with, evaluate, and blend, without wasting a drop of something precious and expensive.

For powder materials like ambroxan, calone, and vanillin, dilution isn't optional, it's essential. Powders need to be fully dissolved in ethanol before they can be accurately measured, evaluated, or incorporated into a formula. Without this step, you simply can't work with them properly.

This bundle gives you everything you need to start working correctly from the first session.
