Pure Essential Oil | Backhousia citriodora

Lemon Myrtle Essential Oil is a steam-distilled essential oil obtained from the leaves of Backhousia citriodora, an Australian native tree. It delivers an intense, pure lemon aroma with exceptional brightness and clarity, making it one of the most powerful natural citrus-style materials available.

Lemon Myrtle presents a sharp, vibrant citrus profile dominated by fresh lemon zest and clean green facets. Unlike expressed citrus oils, it is not bitter or juicy; instead, it is crisp, penetrating, and highly radiant. The aroma feels focused and linear, with strong lift and projection.

Lemon Myrtle functions primarily as a top note, providing brightness and intensity.

Recommended concentration:
Fine fragrance: 0.05–2%

Particularly effective in:
Citrus colognes, fresh aromatics, herbal blends, Australian botanical styles

Blends well with:

The first rule of perfumery: never work neat.

Every professional perfumer works in dilution. It's not a beginner shortcut, it's the correct way to evaluate and blend aromatic materials. At full concentration, materials smell harsh, inaccurate, and often overwhelming. You're not smelling the material, you're smelling too much of it.

When you dilute a 5ml aromatic material to a 10% solution, you extend it to 50ml of working stock. That's five times the material to experiment with, evaluate, and blend, without wasting a drop of something precious and expensive.

For powder materials like ambroxan, calone, and vanillin, dilution isn't optional, it's essential. Powders need to be fully dissolved in ethanol before they can be accurately measured, evaluated, or incorporated into a formula. Without this step, you simply can't work with them properly.

This bundle gives you everything you need to start working correctly from the first session.
