Fragrance Material | Aroma Molecule

Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone is a synthetic aroma chemical used in perfumery to provide soft violet-woody warmth and diffusion. It is a key building block in floral, woody, and powdery structures, contributing body and smoothness without dominating a composition.

Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone presents a violet-like, woody-floral profile with gentle sweetness and a powdery softness. Compared to sharper ionones, it feels rounder and more restrained, adding elegance and cohesion rather than a pronounced note. It helps bridge florals and woods, lending a polished, cosmetic finish.

Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone functions primarily as a heart-to-base note and blender, shaping structure and diffusion.

Recommended concentration: 0.5–12%

Particularly effective in:
Floral bouquets (violet, rose, muguet)
Woody-floral and powdery compositions
Modern musky and cosmetic-style accords

Blends well with:
Rose materials, jasmine, and iris/violet notes
Woods (cedarwood, sandalwood)
Musks, ambers, and Iso E–type materials

Suitable for non-perfumery applications such as candles and home fragrance where a soft floral-woody body is desired

It smooths transitions and adds volume without heaviness.

The first rule of perfumery: never work neat.

Every professional perfumer works in dilution. It's not a beginner shortcut, it's the correct way to evaluate and blend aromatic materials. At full concentration, materials smell harsh, inaccurate, and often overwhelming. You're not smelling the material, you're smelling too much of it.

When you dilute a 5ml aromatic material to a 10% solution, you extend it to 50ml of working stock. That's five times the material to experiment with, evaluate, and blend, without wasting a drop of something precious and expensive.

For powder materials like ambroxan, calone, and vanillin, dilution isn't optional, it's essential. Powders need to be fully dissolved in ethanol before they can be accurately measured, evaluated, or incorporated into a formula. Without this step, you simply can't work with them properly.

This bundle gives you everything you need to start working correctly from the first session.
