Raw Material | 100% Natural Tree Resin
Deep, ancient, and profoundly grounding, Myrrh Gum is a resin of shadow and stillness. Its dark, irregular tears carry the weight of ritual and remembrance. A material long associated with protection, healing, and the quiet rites that mark transition and devotion.

Raw: Bitter-resinous and earthy, with medicinal depth, dry wood, and a faint leathery warmth. There is an austere quality to raw myrrh.

As Incense: When burned, myrrh releases a rich, smoky aroma. Dark, balsamic, and slightly animalic, softened by warmth and resinous sweetness. The smoke is grounding and enveloping, lingering low in the space with a sense of gravity and calm.

Myrrh has been revered across civilizations for over four thousand years. In Ancient Egypt it was used in embalming rites and sacred perfumes; in Greek and Roman medicine it was valued for its preservative and protective qualities. Across the Middle East and Horn of Africa, myrrh has long been burned to sanctify spaces, ward off negativity, and support contemplative practices.

In ritual use, myrrh is associated with grounding, protection, and inner stillness. It is often paired with frankincense, a light and shadow in balance, or blended with resins and woods for meditative, ancestral, or funerary incense compositions.

The first rule of perfumery: never work neat.

Every professional perfumer works in dilution. It's not a beginner shortcut, it's the correct way to evaluate and blend aromatic materials. At full concentration, materials smell harsh, inaccurate, and often overwhelming. You're not smelling the material, you're smelling too much of it.

When you dilute a 5ml aromatic material to a 10% solution, you extend it to 50ml of working stock. That's five times the material to experiment with, evaluate, and blend, without wasting a drop of something precious and expensive.

For powder materials like ambroxan, calone, and vanillin, dilution isn't optional, it's essential. Powders need to be fully dissolved in ethanol before they can be accurately measured, evaluated, or incorporated into a formula. Without this step, you simply can't work with them properly.

This bundle gives you everything you need to start working correctly from the first session.
