Dried Crushed Leaves | Aloysia citrodora

Lemon Verbena is a highly aromatic dried leaf known for its bright, clean citrus fragrance and refreshing character. Lighter and more refined than lemon peel, it offers a crisp botanical citrus note that works beautifully in aromatic blends, teas, and creative formulations.

Raw: Fresh, vibrant lemon with soft green herbal undertones. Cleaner and more natural-smelling than synthetic lemon notes, with a slightly sweet finish.
Heated / Smouldered: When gently warmed, lemon verbena releases a bright citrus-herbal aroma that is uplifting and clean without sharp acidity.
Infused / Tea: Produces a light, refreshing lemon infusion with gentle sweetness and minimal bitterness.

Native to South America and widely cultivated in Europe, lemon verbena has long been used in herbal traditions for its fragrant leaves. It became especially popular in European gardens and apothecaries during the 18th and 19th centuries.

In aromatic practice, lemon verbena is used to:

~ Add a fresh citrus lift to incense blends
~ Brighten potpourri and botanical compositions
~ Balance heavier resins, woods, or spices

In culinary and beverage applications, it is commonly used for:

~ Herbal teas and iced infusions
~ Botanical syrups and cordials
~ Desserts, fruit dishes, and light pastry
~ Craft beverage formulation

Its bright citrus aroma makes it a versatile ingredient across both aromatic and flavour-focused uses.

The first rule of perfumery: never work neat.

Every professional perfumer works in dilution. It's not a beginner shortcut, it's the correct way to evaluate and blend aromatic materials. At full concentration, materials smell harsh, inaccurate, and often overwhelming. You're not smelling the material, you're smelling too much of it.

When you dilute a 5ml aromatic material to a 10% solution, you extend it to 50ml of working stock. That's five times the material to experiment with, evaluate, and blend, without wasting a drop of something precious and expensive.

For powder materials like ambroxan, calone, and vanillin, dilution isn't optional, it's essential. Powders need to be fully dissolved in ethanol before they can be accurately measured, evaluated, or incorporated into a formula. Without this step, you simply can't work with them properly.

This bundle gives you everything you need to start working correctly from the first session.
