Fragrance Material | Blend

Saffron accord delivers the aromatic character of saffron in a consistent, workable form: edible and spicy on the opening, with an herbal warmth, a quiet camphoraceous edge, and deeper tobacco and leather nuances underneath. It is the material at the heart of a significant strand of contemporary Middle Eastern fine fragrance, appearing prominently in the kind of rich, oud-rose-saffron compositions that have driven some of the most commercially successful launches of the last decade.

The opening is iedible and sweet, with a warmth that reads as spicy without being sharp, and a herbal quality that gives it a slightly green, aromatic complexity. The camphoraceous note is subtle at working concentrations, adding naturalness rather than medicinal harshness. An orchid-like softness develops in the heart alongside the continuing herbal and spice character, and the base settles into a warm vanilla with faint earthy, leathery, and tobacco-leaf nuances that extend the saffron character into something more complex and lingering. At a relative odour impact of 150 it is potent, and with a 37.6-hour life on a smelling strip it is a genuine base contributor as well as a top note modifier.

Saffron Accord works as a top-to-heart spice modifier, Middle Eastern fragrance foundation material, and edible-herbal accent with exceptional performance across virtually all categories.

Recommended concentration: The accord is typically used at 5-15% in a perfume compound during formulation. Note that IFRA limits apply to the finished consumer product; for leave-on fine fragrance (IFRA Category 4), the applicable limit is 0.71% in the finished product. Factor this into your compound dilution planning accordingly.

Particularly effective in:

Middle Eastern and Arabic fine fragrance in the style of Initio and Lattafa
Oud, rose, and agarwood compositions where saffron is a traditional pairing
Oriental and amber-spice fine fragrance structures
Incense and candle formulations where warmth and complexity are the brief (rated excellent for both)
Personal care including creams, lotions, and body care

Blends well with:

Oud and agarwood accord materials
Rose absolute and rose accord materials (Wardia rose character)
Musks and ambers as a base
Vetiver, patchouli for earthy depth
Vanilla and tonka bean for warmth
Iso E Super for woody diffusion
